Films 2021
Covid impacted on the District Film Festival and all entries were digitally recorded.
Here are the movies made by Wairoa Primary Students.
Tuakiritanga/ Identity Exhibition 2021
An exhibition of portraits was created by Robyn Silvester (School Librarian) and Anahera-Pono Whakatope (Resource Teacher of Maori) along with teacher aids and whanau support.
Inspired by an article in 2018 Ako Magazine, the purpose of the exhibition was for the children to connect with their heritage.
This exhibition also featured in the Education Gazette Vol 101 No. 1
The following video was created to showcase the exhibition and concludes with performances from our senior school kapahaka.
Kapa Haka 2022

Kaupapa Maori me te Tikanga Maori are just part of the way we do things at Wairoa Primary.
Each year we also take part in the district Kapahaka festival.
In 2021 the Festival was Virtual due to Covid and the performances can be seen at 22:58 and 37:05 timestamps of the District Festivals Youtube Video.
This year the festival it is being hosted by Wairoa College.


EOTC-Senior Camps

We are all about opportunity and each year we visit different locations based on a three-year program covering local, regional and national excursions. In 2019 we extended this to international with our first excursion to Rarotonga tracing the cultural heritage of our tipuna.
Every year we visit at least one local Marae .
Flying High

We were visited by the Flying High Project.
The senior pupils had an opportunity to go for a short flight in a hot air balloon.
They also got to meet the pilot who shared photos of his travels and a conservation message.


Prize Giving

Each year excellence in the school is recognised in both the Auraki and Rumaki with the acknowledgment of the Dux .
Prize Giving in 2020 was held at Taihoa Marae.
Due to Covid we had our first Virtual Prize Giving in 2021.

Community Service

We are an enviro school and this means we take an active role within the local community promoting environmental issues as part of our curriculum.
We don't just talk about how to make our local environment a safe and healthy place we also practise it.
At least once a term children are supported by staff to go out into our local community and clean up the streets.
The pupils also get involved in other environmental activities such as tree planting and sustainable gardening.
